"KOBE!"

So the other night we went on a night mission.  We had to walk around a huge field looking for a a rocket stand. We were using our night vision goggles or NOD's. It was really hard to walk because the terrain was so uneven. As we walked we came to a canal. It was maybe 8ft wide. SGT Cowan decided to walk across it. He took one step and sank down to his waist. The rest of us just laughed and decided we werent gonna get in that nasty water. So we walked up and down the bank looking for a different place to cross.  We found a spot that was about 6 feet wide and about 4 feet high. All dirt. It looked easy enough to jump across. The first couple of people went across without a problem. My turn came. I gauged the distance, took a step back and leapt into the air. For some reason I yelled "KOBE!!!" as I floated over the canal. I landed and as soon as I my foot hit solid ground the dirt gave away. My foot slipped into the nasty water. My upper body came crashing down. My weapon hit first which then hit my NOD's which dug into the part of my face where my nose and brow meet. I was more embarrassed than hurt. I got up and felt something trickling down my face. I immediately knew what it was because it was really warm.  So I showed my squad leader who then took me the doc. They werent allowed to give me stitches because it was on my face but they taped it up so it will close. It was a small gash about an inch long. Here are some pics
